Marc Thiercelin is a French skipper and sailor who was born on July 8, 1961, in Malo-les-Bains, France. He is known for his achievements in ocean racing and has competed in several major sailing events, including the Vendée Globe, the Route du Rhum, and the Transat Jacques Vabre.
Thiercelin began his career as a sailor in the 1980s, participating in small boat races before moving up to larger boats. In 1992, he competed in the Vendée Globe for the first time, finishing in 8th place. He would go on to compete in this race again in 1996, 2000, and 2004, finishing in the top 10 each time.
Thiercelin's other notable achievements include a win in the 1998 Route du Rhum, a transatlantic race from France to Guadeloupe, as well as a win in the 1999 Transat Jacques Vabre, a double-handed race from France to Brazil.
In addition to his racing career, Thiercelin has also worked as a sailing instructor and consultant, helping others improve their sailing skills and develop racing strategies.
